The Switchboard Operator assists in the operation of a large telephone switchboard and to perform related clerical duties. Responsible for routing all in-coming telephone calls placed through the switchboard.
Assists callers in routing all in-coming telephones calls
Assists callers in determining the proper office or person with whom they wish to talk
Operates the institutional paging system
Answer and screen all in-coming calls and transfer to appropriate party
Speak clearly and with a professional voice when answering all calls
Listen to the caller and communicate with them regarding what you are going to do to help them, (i.e., “I will transfer you to appointments to help you with an office appointment.” or “ Let me get someone to help you, just one moment please.” Go back in to person on Hold to let them know status of call.
Take messages, when necessary and/or needed
In-house paging, when necessary
Communicate with answering service. Fax weekly on-call schedule to answering service.
Number loose work and scan into TouchChart
Correct return mail
Mail MD letters.
Prepares charts for clinic
Mails out new patient paperwork
other duties as assigned
High school diploma required
One year of experience as an operator on a switchboard
