This full-time position will be responsible for interfacing and developing or enhancing referral relationships with current and potential referral sources including, but not limited to: physicians, referral staff, other referral influencers, emergency rooms, current patients, hospital physician liaison staff, hospital marketing staff, and current patients.   Internally (approx. 10% of time), this individual will develop methodologies to improve the patient experience so as to effectively leverage this important referral source.  Such methodologies may be based on feedback obtained from current patients or referring physician staff regarding the TOA treatment experience.  Externally (approx. 90% of time), this position will function as a liaison between TOA physicians and service lines and current and potential referral sources – predominately physicians and their referral decision makers.  In making contact with external referral sources, much attention will be paid to: listening to constructive or critical feedback; assessing needs (for specific educational materials, educational presentations, or for help with a particular type of injury or patient group); educating referral sources about TOA specialty services (i.e., Hand Surgery, Joint Replacement, etc.), new TOA physicians, new offices, or technological developments; providing general information about TOA and its physicians and services; and providing alternative contact information to referral sources in the event conventional referral pathways do not work.


  • All activities will meticulously logged by date, time, contact person(s), follow up, other comments, etc. 
  • Referrals from visited offices and physicians will be tracked and reported. 
  • Feedback from referral sources will be reported to the supervisor and disseminated to site or product line managers as indicated. 
  • May require some early or late hours and some meeting attendance will be required.  Night or weekend work will be very infrequent.
  • The Practice Liaison must develop fluency in orthopedics and the various orthopedic specialties. 
  • Some shadowing of TOA physicians may be required. 
  • A good understanding of the overall TOA appointment scheduling process will be helpful as well. 
  • Initial visits to the various TOA sites will also help provide a good organizational overview as well.
  • Must be able and willing to spend a significant amount of time on the road driving between offices. 



  • BS/BA Degree in any field


  • Minimum of 2 years of healthcare related experience preferred. 
  • Prior experience working with physicians is required
  • Must be professional, dependable, and personable
  • Must have good communication skills with physician and non-physician referral sources.
  • Follow through and organization skills are required traits
